Welcome to The Maryland Christian Youth Band and Orchestra!

The MCYBO is dedicated to providing young musicians the best opportunity to participate in performing ensembles and small group classes in a Christian environment. Begun as the CBA Band and Orchestra in 2002, our organization has over a decade of experience teaching musicians from the homeschool community. We now have musicians from every school environment participating in our ensembles. Our directors have many years of teaching and conducting experience in public and private schools as well as community organizations.

We invite you to look over our website and see how we are able to meet the needs of your student musician whether he or she is a novice beginner or experienced performer. We welcome students from all backgrounds who wish to participate in a fun, challenging, and nurturing musical experience.

Summer 2021 Update

Beginning this fall, MCYBO will begin it’s 19th Season of instrumental ensemble instruction at The Lutheran Church of St. Andrew. Praise God!

The church is located at 15300 New Hampshire Ave., Silver Spring, MD, 20905. This new location will allow us to grow as God sees fit. It will also make our classes more enjoyable and effective.

We will be hosting an Open House at our new location in mid August. (We are awaiting confirmation of our calendar dates.) This will give everyone an opportunity to see the new facilities and to meet new and prospective students who are interested in joining our program. Details will be coming soon.

All teachers will be vaccinated but students will not be required to be vaccinated or wear masks. Students are free to wear masks, use bell masks for horns, or take any other precautions they deem necessary, but classes will return to the usual rehearsal format. With the added room available at St Andrews, we will be able to social distance with room to spare.

WINTER WEATHER POLICY

MCYBO follows the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) cancellation policy for winter weather emergencies.

  • If MCPS cancels school due to winter weather, MCYBO cancels classes for that day as well.
  • If MCPS has an early dismissal due to a winter weather emergency, MCYBO cancels classes.
  • If MCPS has a delayed opening, MCYBO holds classes as scheduled.

Members will also receive an email on the morning in question to notify them of any cancellations or to confirm that classes will be held.
